Superficial

And we don't care

Genuine Other
03:15
|
|||
[Spoken 1]
I figure for a loving relationship to be worth something, to love has to be freely chosen, and should be more to do with valuing the happiness of another, or others, and less to do with infatuation or personal gratification.
[Chorus]
Am I your genuine other
Father, mother, sister, brother
Your one and different version
Your independent part and parcel?
[Spoken 2]
I figure for a loving relationship to be meaningful, the choice to not love has to remain an option ... and one that is free from fear of consequences. Otherwise one can never be sure that expressions of love are not simply a smoke-screen for self-interest.
[Repeat Chorus]
[Spoken 3]
I figure for a loving relationship to be real there has to be genuine independence between the lovers. It is the choosing to place importance on another's desires and needs that generates the substance ... more so than the experience of being loved or being in love.
[Instrumental]
[Spoken 4]
I figure to love in a way that's of serious interest to God, it can't be motivated by desire for liberation or reunion with loved ones in heaven, or tainted in the way a fan loves a celebrity ... it needs to be to do with serving God's happiness above everything else, even at the cost of ones own.
[Repeat Chorus]
[Spoken 5]
So what makes you happy? ... I'd like to know.

Always A Person
03:15
|
|||
[Chorus]
We are rounds playing squares
Embracing limitation
For serves our aspirations
And after liberation
Individual yet remain
Satcitananda ... always a person
[Spoken 1]
Is it logical that once freed from the limitations of our present bodily senses and mind we cease to have any sense of I? Or is it possible that we can only play these limited person roles because we are fundamentally personal at a deeper level? For myself, I find the notion of the personal soul persuasive. Of course, you must satisfy yourself as to which explanations resonate for you.
[Repeat Chorus]
[Spoken 2]
A person is a feeler of feelings, thinker of thoughts, desirer of desires. OK, in this world, through the medium of these bodies and minds, personal traits are expressed in limited ways, but is it reasonable to argue that in the liberated state these things MUST be absent altogether? If that's the case then liberation means rather less than more.
[Repeat Chorus]
[Spoken 3]
Perhaps the limited roles we play in this world simply facilitate focused expression and exploration of particular types of relational enjoyment? That being the case, just as a professional actor retiring from the stage goes home to family and friends ... continues to be a person ... so likewise the liberated soul remains personal.
